ZUNI, NM — Ian Channing Lasiloo, a 31year-old member of the Zuni Tribe, pleaded guilty in federal court to charges related to a violent incident involving a firearm, announced Alexander M.M. Uballez, the United States Attorney for the District of New Mexico, and Raul Bujanda, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI Albuquerque Field Office.

Lasiloo admitted to using, carrying, and brandishing a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence. The incident, which occurred on August 15, 2022, involved Lasiloo driving to the residence of John Doe, where he confronted Doe about a debt. In response to Doe's denial of owing anything, Lasiloo pointed a .22 caliber revolver at Doe's face and then fired the weapon, injuring Doe in the heel.

Following a federal grand jury indictment on March 21, 2023, Lasiloo voluntarily surrendered and remains in custody pending sentencing, the date for which has not yet been set.

At sentencing, Lasiloo faces a minimum of seven years and up to life in prison for the offense.

The Gallup Resident Agency of the FBI Albuquerque Field Office investigated the case with assistance from the Zuni Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney Robert James Booth II is prosecuting the case.

Lasiloo's plea agreement, detailed in court documents, outlines his admission of guilt and includes recommendations for sentencing, restitution, and forfeiture of assets related to the crime.

The agreement also involves waivers of certain rights, including the right to appeal the conviction and sentence, as well as the right to a jury trial on forfeiture matters.

Provided Lasiloo fulfills his obligations under the agreement, the United States has agreed to dismiss additional charges against him and not bring further criminal charges related to the incident.

The plea agreement is subject to the court's approval, and if found in violation, Lasiloo could face additional prosecution and forfeiture of certain rights outlined in the
