GRANTS, N.M. — Engines will sing and dust will fly this weekend as the Rugged West SXS & ATV Rodeo rips into the Grants Rodeo Grounds (Exit 81) on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 20–21. Grand Entry begins at 10 a.m. both days, with buckles to average winners— so consistency counts as much as speed.
Racers can throw down in classic crowd-pleasers: Barrel Race ($30) and Poles ($30), plus team tests like Flags and Rescue Race (both require a partner, $30 each). The horsepower heats continue with a 4D (handicap) SXS format and the straight-line rush of an ATV straight race. Buy-backs are allowed, so if a run goes sideways, competitors still have a shot at redemption— and those shiny buckles.
Entry is by text to 505793-2287, and payment is due before books close at 9 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 20. A late fee applies after books close, and you must enter both days to be eligible for the average-winner buckles. Spectators can plan on an all-day show: Gate is $10 per person, with kids 12 & under free. Dry camping is available for $20, making it easy to stake out a pit-side weekend under big Cibola skies.
Bring sunscreen, your loudest cheers, and a love for speed.
