NAVAJO NATION, N.M. – Crownpoint man Wade Dixon has been indicted for sexual abuse of a minor on the Navajo Nation. Dixon was arraigned in a federal court for this sexual abuse charge on March 11. An arraignment is not a trial, all defendants are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

On February 24 the US Department of Justice convened a grand jury and indicted Dixon on the sexual abuse charge. An indictment is an allegation. According to the grand jury’s indictment, Dixon engaged in a sexual act with a victim being identified as Jane Doe on July 10, 2021. At the time of the alleged act, Jane Doe was younger than 16 years of age. The incident occurred on Navajo Nation land.

If proven guilty on this charge, Dixon faces up to 15 years in prison.

The Navajo Nation Police Department worked with the Federal Bureau of Investigation to uncover the allegations in this case. Special Assistant United States Attorney Chelsea N. Van Deventer is prosecuting this case on behalf of the US Government.
