August 18 Regular Village of Milan Meeting A Board of Trustees Meeting is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. on August 18 at Village Hall, 623 uranium Avenue in Milan, N.M. August 21 Guided Hike to Lobo Canyon Petroglyphs Join a BLM Ranger for a guided hike to Lobo Canyon Petroglyphs site in Cebolla Canyon. Petroglyphs are a part of the Native American living culture. It reminds them of who they are and where they come from. Meet at La Ventana Natural Arch Parking Area off Highway 117 (Take exit 89, south on highway 117 from I40, its about 18 minutes to La Ventana Arch) at 10 a.m. and we will caravan to Lobo Canyon Petroglyphs trailhead. Program will last an hour. It is an easy hike, but a short and steep arroyo crossing to get to the Petroglyphs site. Bring water, hiking sticks, snacks or a sack lunch. Wear sturdy hiking shoes and dress for changing weather. For more information, call the ranger station at 505-280-2918.

August 25 Lodger’s Tax Board Meeting The Lodger’s Tax Board will meet at 9 a.m. on August 25 in the City Hall Council Chambers, 600 W. Santa Fe Avenue. Agendas will be available August 22 at the city hall.

Cibola Senior Citizens’ Advisory Council The Cibola Senior Citizens’ Advisory Council will meet at 2 p.m. on August 25 at 2 p.m. in the Senior Citizen’s Center, 550 Jurassic Court in Grants. Agendas will be available on August 22.

August 28 Ranger Talk at El Malpais Ranger Station Join us at the BLM Ranger Station at 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. to learn more about El Malpais’ unique geologic story at the Ranger Station! El Malpais features high plateaus and juniper forests, sandstone cliffs, and volcanoes, with extensive lava flows of the Zuni-Bandera volcanic field. Volcanic eruptions have occurred as recently as 3,000 years ago! Knowing some of the stories buried under in the rock layers will enrich your understanding and enhance your experience at El Malpais. September 10 Free Movie – Rebel Without a Cause “Rebel Without a Cause” is a film that spoke to a whole generation. It remains powerful despite some dated elements. It was release in 1955 and starred James Dean. Communication was a barrier between his character and his parents. National Public Lands Day Join us in a project to improve the El Malpais Ranger Station Nature Trail! Volunteers will work on installing benches along the trail as well as general trail and beautification. Tools, water, and snacks will be provided. Each volunteer will also receive National Public Lands Day swag and a fee-free coupon to use at a participating federal recreation or visitor site!
