GRANTS, N.M. – Grants Fire and Rescue was dispatched to a small fire burning outside the Lobo Canyon Fire Department on February 19. The blaze was quickly extinguished by firefighting crews.
A small shed caught fire behind the volunteer fire department which had no volunteers at the time. The shed was located to the side of the iconic water tower which bears the words, “Lobo Canyon Vol. Fire Dept.”
Flames reached high on the tower, going over the top of the cylindrical shaped water tower, leaving scorch marks. Firefighting crews quickly arrived on scene. Grants Fire and Rescue deployed a “quick attack hose” and were able to quickly get control of the fire, stopping it from spreading to nearby brush.
No injuries were reported and the fire was quickly handled without major damage being sustained.
