GRANTS, NM – A concerned citizen dialed 911 on June 10 after seeing a woman who appeared to be passed out on the pavement near 1700 Roberts Road in Grants, New Mexico. Police arrested Natasha Nez and her brother Eugenio James for a charge each of drunk or disorderly.
The concerned citizen called police around 10:20 p.m. on June 10, police were dispatched to the location and quickly located a woman lying on the ground. Police identified this woman as Nez. Two men were with her, both of whom said they do not know Nez; one of these men was later identified as Nez’s brother, James.
Both of the men attempted to wake Nez, calling her “Natasha” in front of the police who noted in their report that these men claimed not to know the woman. After the attempt to wake her failed, one of the two men left the area, James remained.
Just as the man left, a white in color 2018 Ford Edge arrived on scene, the female driver told police she was related to Nez and said she would take her home so long as Nez didn’t cause problems. The driver identified Nez by her full name to officers.
While police spoke with the female driver, an officer used a sternum rub to wake Nez. Officers were trying to help Nez get into her relative’s vehicle when she told officers, “Bye Felicia.”
Officers determined Nez was not in a condition where she should be left alone and placed her under arrest. As they began to place her in their vehicle for transport, James told officers Nez was his sister and that he would like to go with her. Police officers, “Honored his request and placed him under arrest,” according to a police report of the incident.
Nez and James were taken to Cibola General Hospital for a medical clearance and were later booked at Cibola County Correctional Center in the Village of Milan.
