Disturbance at Grants Hotel Leads to Arrest

GRANTS, NM – Grants Police Department was dispatched to the Days Inn Hotel located at 1504 E. Santa Fe Ave. on August 7, in response to an incident involving an intoxicated female causing disturbances, according to official reports.

Officers arrived at the scene in response to a call from Cibola Regional Communications Center which had relayed a request from a mother at the hotel, asking for assistance in dealing with her reportedly intoxicated daughter.

Upon arrival, officers met and spoke with the mother who informed him that her daughter, identified as Chelsea Etsitty, had been scheduled to work but requested a pickup. The mother located Chelsea walking on a nearby bridge overpass, an encounter that escalated into an argument prompting her call for police intervention.

Officers went to speak with Chelsea Etsitty, who asserted that she was walking home and denied consuming alcoholic beverages. However, officers noted in their official report that there were indications of intoxication, including the presence of alcohol odor on her breath, along with slurred speech and bloodshot, watery eyes.

Etsitty denied the allegation that she had consumed alcohol, however, observations by police officers led to their decision. During this interaction, according to the report, Etsitty remained argumentative when asked about the presence of alcohol odor on her body.

Officers chose to place Etsitty under arrest, utilizing handcuffs, and proceeded to transport her to his patrol vehicle without any further reported incidents.

After she was arrested, Etsitty was transported to Cibola General Hospital for medical clearance, after being cleared by the staff at CGH, officers transported Etsitty to the Grants Police Department for processing. After finishing all of her paperwork, Etsitty was transported to Cibola County Correctional Center for detention.
