The total grant that they received was $125,000 and the new sign costed $70,000. The remainder of the grant was used to improve the mining museum building.
Executive Director of the Chamber of Com- merce Donald Jaramillo introduces Represen- tative Eliseo Alcon, Representative Harry Garcia, and Mayor Erik Garcia at the ribbon cutting ceremony held on December 6 for the new sign purchased for the mining museum. The ribbon cutting ceremony was held on miners’ day, a day to celebrate miners both past and present. At the New Mexico Mining Museum, they also had a small event for miners’ day which included allowing those related to or those that know miners to make a luminaria in their honor.
Cards were also made and were arranged in the mining museum lobby. The various cards were made by local children in the area and were made to show thanks to the miners in the area and to celebrate miners’ day.
