GRANTS, NM – The highly anticipated Spokes on 66 car show is making a triumphant return on Saturday, June 7, bringing a full day of fun for the entire family.

The event, spearheaded by Grants MainStreet Project Inc., under the leadership of Executive Director Denise Hanson, aims to showcase the rich culture and vibrant community spirit of Grants while drawing visitors from across New Mexico and neighboring states.

“This is about more than cars,” said Hanson. “We’re setting the foundation for next year’s centennial celebration while creating an event the whole community can rally around.”

A Celebration of Community, Creativity, and Cars

MainStreet is bringing together a wide range of activities to engage people of all ages, making 2025’s Spokes on 66 a true community experience.

The main attraction of Spokes on 66 is of course the awesome display of cars, but more than that, MainStreet is working to make this a event a celebration of Grants’ community and creativity.

“Spokes on 66 is about creating memories, building connections, and showing off everything our community has to offer,” said Hanson. “We’re bringing together art, music, local businesses, and family fun to make this an unforgettable day.”

The event will feature a free mural bike ride, offering participants a guided tour of Grants’ renowned public art – installed thanks to hard work by MainStreet – with bicycles and helmets provided. Families can also enjoy a pet parade, organized in partnership with the Grants Care Center, and cheer on participants in a pie-eating contest hosted by the Knights of Columbus.

For younger attendees, a kids' construction zone near the skate park will include sand toys, and shaded play areas, all made possible by contributions from local businesses like Walmart, C&E, and Diamond G. Children can also race RC cars, compete in Hot Wheels tracks, and even challenge their friends in Mario Kart tournaments, courtesy of Continental Divide Electric Cooperative. Bounce houses, always a hit with the little ones, will also be available free of charge.

Adding to the festive atmosphere, three live bands will perform throughout the day at Fire and Ice Park, filling the air with music as attendees explore craft and food vendors offering unique items and local flavors.

“This isn’t just a day for car enthusiasts,” Hanson explained. “It’s a chance for families, friends, and neighbors to come together and celebrate what makes Grants special—our art, our culture, and our sense of community

Making the Event a Success

This year’s event is bolstered by partnerships with local businesses and organizations, reflecting a deep commitment to the community.

To enhance the visitor experience, Grants Main-Street has developed a Spokes on 66 app, offering schedules, maps, and even hotel booking links. Hanson has secured agreements with local hotels to offer discounted rates, making it easier for out-oftown guests to attend.

“We’re committed to delivering an organized and unforgettable event,” said Hanson. “This year, we’re really listening to feedback and building on past successes.”

Grants MainStreet is actively seeking volunteers to help with the event. Roles are available in car show coordination, entertainment, vendor assistance, and setup/teardown. Those interested in showcasing their classic cars can register online through the MainStreet website or by visiting the MainStreet office.

The 2025 Spokes on 66 serves as a prelude to the 2026 Route 66 Centennial Celebration, which will highlight Grants’ rich history and its role in the legendary highway. Grants MainStreet is also working on revitalization projects downtown, including upgrades to Riverwalk Park and Fire and Ice Park, with grants pending approval for improved infrastructure.

“We’re working hard to make Grants a destination for visitors while also celebrating the heart of our community,” Hanson said.
