Navy Week Coming to Santa Fe in November

The U.S. Navy is bringing its Navy Week program to Santa Fe from November 10-16, offering an inside look at the Navy’s role in national defense. This event is part of the Navy’s nationwide outreach, coinciding with its 250th birthday celebration.

“Since most of our Navy’s assets and personnel are strategically located on the coasts, NAVCO’s outreach efforts reach Americans in cities without a high naval presence,” said Cmdr. Julie Holland, NAVCO’s director. During Navy Weeks, Americans will learn firsthand from exemplary Sailors what the Navy is like and how their Navy has promoted prosperity and security, deterred aggression and protected the American way of life for the past 250 years.”

During Navy Week, Sailors will be visible in action— volunteering across Santa Fe, visiting their community schools, and showcasing naval operations. Special performances from the U.S. Navy Band and Ceremonial Guard will also be part of the experience.

While Santa Fe may be a bit of a drive for Cibola residents, this is a unique opportunity to meet Sailors, learn about life in the Navy, and celebrate its contributions to national security.

Many of Cibola’s servicemen are members of the navy, staff at the newspaper collectively know 13 local individuals currently serving in the U.S. Navy.
