Letters to the Editor . . .

Dear Editor, We continue to read about devastation from wildfires and strong storms. Climate scientists say we will see more as a result of climate change.

To reduce air pollution that causes climate change we must reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. Senator Lindsey Graham said, 'CO2 emissions generated by man is creating our greenhouse gas effect that traps heat, and the planet is warming.'

Our government needs to do much more to promote clean energy, such as wind, solar, and geothermal, and reduce our dependence on fossil fuels. This includes restoring tax credits for clean energy--not reducing them.

I encourage readers to email their U.S. Senators and Representative. Joining Citizens' Climate Lobby and similar groups is another great way to fight climate change.

Make earth great again. There is no planet B.

When our grandchildren ask what we did about climate change, let's have an answer.

Sincerely, Gary Jump, Itasca, IL Cleanest Safest Streets

Dear editor, The goal for the City of Grants is to have the cleanest and safest city in New Mexico. This goal is always on the mind of the elected officials, the city manager, the chiefs of the police and fire departments, and the department heads. This is always the main topic of every meeting and discussion.

Recently, we have had some thoughtless criminals vandalizing properties throughout the city. They are damaging and defacing homes, other structures, and signs. They brazenly commit these acts with no thoughts to the cost to the property owners or the city. Vandalism is a crime. Anyone that vandalizes properties are criminals that are breaking the law. These actions cause many citizens to be upset and even cause some to fear and worry.

We are asking everyone that lives within the Grants City Limits to be vigilant and watchful for these individuals. If you live next door to where an act of vandalism has been committed, and you have cameras, please check your footage for any evidence that can be used to find, arrest, and prosecute these individuals for their property crimes. If you happen to know who this individual or individuals are, please contact GPD Dispatch at 505-2872983, or call Code Enforcement at 505-2853981. You will not have to give your name and we will keep your identity anonymous.

Good citizenship requires that everyone works together to make our community cleaner and safer. Please don't be afraid to step up and report crime when you see it happening Robert S. Windhorst Code Enforcement Officer, City of Grants
