Beverly Allen

Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, June 7, 2024, at the First Presbyterian Church in Grants for journalist, advertising and public relations executive Beverly Lynn Bowlin Allen who died May 27, 2024 in Albuquerque.

Beverly had an impressive career that started while she was a student in Oklahoma and went to work as a reporter at KOCO TV. While at school, she was crowned All College Basketball queen an affirmation of her love of team sports that she eventually merged into her work. She transferred to the University of New Mexico and worked at KGGM TV 13 as a weather caster.

In addition, she was a print reporter for the Grants Daily Beacon and later a reporter at the Albuquerque Tribune.

Her career took another turn when she joined Lee Galles and the firm of Competitive Edge where she spent time in the Albuquerque Office and an office in Australia. While with the company, she worked on projects with the NFL, including the 1986 Super Bowl.

Returning to Albuquerque, she went to work for Rick Johnson & Company and lead the team to bring the McDonald’s All American High School Basketball Game to the Duke City for a successful game that generated enough income to pay off a large portion of the Ronald McDonald House mortgage.

In addition, Beverly worked in sales at KOB radio and KLUZ TV and alongside Mickey Toppino’s advertising agency.

She spent several years as a trainer at the New Mexico Broadcasters Association until she was lured by Gov. Bill Richardson to provide communication services for the New Mexico Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management. She completed her career with the Albuquerque office of the Red Cross.

Beverly was born on August 23, 1946, in Deming and grew up in the western city of Grants where she was a cheerleader and a student reporter while at Grants High School. She was an avid reader, a talented woodworker, and a culinary whiz with her canning equipment. She even perfected a recipe for mustard that was annually shared with those she loved.

Beverly was preceded in death by her husband: Jack Allen, an Albuquerque Police Officer who she met while he was the Crime stoppers liaison. She was also preceded in death by her father Bob Bowlin.

She is survived by her mother: Barbara Bowlin of Grants; sister: Bonnie Bowlin of Albuquerque; and brother: Bruce, also of Grants.

Services are set to begin at 2 p.m. in the church where Beverly worshipped while growing up and continue her involvement with the congregation. The church is located at 400 Nimitz Drive.
