The Fourth of July went off without a hitch. The annual Independence Day Parade in Grants is easily one of the nicest in New Mexico, and the City of Grants’ annual firework show was one for the books – an incredible display of colors and booms.

I understand that many Americans celebrated with a heavy heart this year. The United States has long been a nation which secures rights for its citizens, even fighting a civil war to ensure and enshrine the rights of Black Americans in the Constitution. Women, however, have never been recognized as equal to average citizens in the constitution, they are allowed to vote but are not declared as “equal” to men. This was no clearer than in the month of June, when a healthcare right was stripped away from women.

I’m not here to debate the abortion situation. I am here to say that if women want the right to an abortion, they need to move to a state that gives them that right. If women really want abortion to be made law, they need to press their congresspeople to make it a law.

I am here to say that the United States is stronger now than it ever has been in its history. The only flaw on our beautiful Republic is the blemish of division among our United States.

Militarily, despite China’s constant arguments that they have a stronger military, the US trumps all of our adversaries by miles. We don’t need to worry about a military threat.

Energy wise, despite whatever side of the “green energy” argument you stand on, the US is doing markedly better with fuel prices and natural gas prices when compared to our allies and adversaries across the world. Gas and oil aren’t going anywhere anytime soon, and wind turbines are not a sustainable future, but we have the best and the brightest scientists in the world. I know they will find us a solution somewhere in the middle of Oil and “Green Power,” perhaps one which reinvigorates the uranium mining industry and breathes life into Cibola’s economy once again.

Economically, Germany, the United Kingdom, and France are very close to a recession. Here in the United States, despite all of the anxiety about a recession, money is still flowing – and flowing at incredible highs, even in rural areas like Grants, New Mexico. If a recession were coming, Americans wouldn’t have money for luxuries like take-out foods, Amazon packages, or the hundreds of thousands of dollars spent on recreational marijuana in just Grants alone. The public has money, and stocks may have a taken a hit from Putin’s War on Ukraine but money is still coursing through the economy’s veins.

There is a grand division in the chambers of congress. Our elected “leaders” have taken childish stances on political problems which have no real impact on voters, but get people to the polls. When the congress comes together, this country sees amazing progress done for the public good. Look at Joe Biden’s infrastructure law, it was an incredible success and has helped build many bridges and repair many roads across the country.

Yet, when the greatest strategic competition in human history occurs, involving the United States and China, a single US Senator from Kentucky will threaten to blow up a bipartisan bill that will make the United States so much stronger and more equipped to handle the competition we are in with China. Why did he threaten to do this? He said the Republican Party would kill the China bill if Democrats propose making abortion access a federal law. This is childish. This is foolish. This is the definition of Party Over Country.

I don’t know what happened to the US, that people have begun to claim that slavery was just “involuntary relocation” (seriously, look it up, this is happening in Texas.) or that citizens feel like they can threaten to hang the vice president outside of Capitol Hill.

Our country has been through a lot, and lately things have been difficult for everyone. I have faith that we can make it through this. Our country has been through much worse, but we always pulled out of it by supporting each other.

We are Americans, living in the Land of the Free and Home of the Brave. We are descendants of great heroes, champions who saw victory in two world wars and has historically stood up for the rights of marginalized groups.

I have to say, there was an assassination on July 8 in Japan. Shinzo Abe, a friend of Democracy and a Champion of Human Rights, was shot in the back and the front of his neck. Two shots from a homemade firearm led to his death. I send my best wishes and all my prayers to the people of Japan, our friend and ally – especially in the face of the Chinese competition – because Abe was a friend of the US and his leadership is an inspiration to the free world.

Constitution Week is rapidly approaching, the birth of this glorious nation is celebrated over a week’s span, starting on September 17. This is the week our founders signed the constitution, creating the United States and setting into course a movement which would revolutionize the world and safeguard human rights across the globe. Let’s prepare to celebrate this week, lets learn more about our constitution.

I believe in the power of We The People to make our Union More Perfect. That was the desire of our constitution’s framers, that their descendants would strive to improve the lives of everyone in this land and keep those who would trample over our constitution at bay.

I believe in the United States. In its citizens who work every day to strengthen domestic tranquility and improve their communities. Our nation is great and it always has been. We have had our troubles and we’ve made our mistakes but we are a nation learning and actively improving. There is hard work to do, but we will do it – we must do it.

I believe in US.
