Veteran’s Day Celebrations

Dear editor, It was such a pleasure to be able to participate in the Veteran's Day Memorial Service this past Saturday at Veteran's Park. There was a very nice crowd to take part in this service. Richard Jones was the Emcee and gave a beautiful talk about Veterans. I think it is important to note that Richard Jones, a talented welder, has built the metal crosses that we see at Fire and Ice Park every Veterans and Memorial Day weekends. He has made hundreds of them over the years. NM State Representative Harry Garcia and others spoke movingly of the sacrifices made by Veterans for the freedoms we enjoy today.

The mood was reverent and somber as Eddie Ross and the Honor Guard gave a twenty-one gun salute to honor the fallen and the sound of taps playing brought tears to most eyes. As Harry Garcia said, 'Freedom is never free.' This is a true statement. Our Veterans answered the call of duty and were prepared to lay their lives on the altar of freedom. Many did give their lives and limbs, and mental and emotional security for all of us. We revere and honor all who have served our country since the beginning and have fought to keep our nation free and to protect our freedoms. Our gratitude is eternal, as our Veterans Glory will be.

Election Concern

Dear Editor, My spouse Asbury Hamilton Williams and I, Ami Regier, went to our local polling station near Candy Kitchen yesterday, November 7, and were so surprised by 3 items on the ballot.

The County and State had sent nothing and no info on the ballot was available.

We called the Secretary of State if New Mexico and the Cibola County Clerk's office yesterday. They said it wasn't their responsibility to notify the public about what and who was on the ballotthat it was up to candidates to put info out about themselves.

Two candidates for our Soil, Lava, and Water Conservation District Board of Supervisors were on the ballot. We are concerned that they have the power to approve agriculture grants for small farmers. We need to know if they support regenerative agriculture.

Our polling station judge had no information on any candidates.

Shouldn't the government responsibility be to make sure public info is available? We were blinded as voters. There was no information at state or county websites.

There was also a school board bond, that was self-explanatory, and a school board member up for election, which is good-- but we needed info ahead of time.

We are highly concerned.

Sincerely, Ami Regier Asbury Hamilton Williams
