The new norm: ...a little good news!

Have you ever remembered a song from years ago and can’t seem to get the jingle out of your head; one that just keeps popping up over and over? The one that’s been in my mind lately is by Anne Murray and written in 1983, called “A Little Good News.” I watched a remake yesterday where Anne is singing while the background video depicts some of the song’s emotions and struggles.

One verse is: “There’s a local paper rolled up in a rubber band. One more sad story’s one more than I can stand Just once, how I’d like to see the headline say Not much to print today can’t fmd nothing bad to say”

The song talks about fighting around the world and stealing planes and someone robbing a liquor store...and of people dying in vain. It sounds all too familiar still. The world is still struggling, including with COVID-19. All front-page news!

Pandemic- fatigue is new word on the streets and I totally understand it; and I’m sure you do as well. Personal responsibility is a new phrase in some states that have COVID cases rising at alarming rates, encouraging people to wear masks. We have gained about 10 cases per day in our county for some time now; the coronavirus is nearing our neighborhood.

“A little good news “ was announced the other day by President Trump from the White House Rose Garden in that medical drug manufactures Pfizer and Moderna have announced the possibility of a COVID-19 vaccine perhaps as early as the first of the New Year and likely ready for distribution by April of 2021. That’s encouraging and it’s amazing!

SpaceX had another successful launch this past Sunday sending astronauts to the International Space Station to continue research, including medical research.

The last lines of the last verse of the song envisions:

“And everybody loves everybody in the good old USA

We sure could use a little good news today.”
