SANTA FE, N.M. – Two Grants-Cibola County Schools seniors from Laguna- Acoma High School attended the opening day of the 2026 New Mexico Legislative Session on Jan. 20 as guests of Sen. Angel Charley, according to information provided by GCCS.
Thanielle Lucero and Jacob Cheromiah spent part of the day with Charley, who represents District 30 in the New Mexico State Senate. The students sat with Charley on the Senate floor and were formally introduced and recognized during the session.
GCCS officials said Lucero and Cheromiah were selected to accompany the senator based on strong academic performance, consistent attendance and positive character.
District officials said the visit gave the students an opportunity to represent Laguna-Acoma High School and the Grants-Cibola County Schools district during one of the state’s most significant annual civic events – the opening of the lawmaking 2026 session in Santa Fe.
