Pirate baseball in full swing

GHS boys Baseball has been in full swing and their 17-game season will last through mid-June this year. In the most recent 2 games the Pirates lost both contests and are currently 5-7, 0-1.

“We are in a building process—we have a couple of seniors---they are here contributing and helping us teach the young guys,” said GHS head baseball coach Walter Sarracino of the team’s current status.

On Thursday, May 13 the Pirates hosted the Tigers of Aztec and lost 7-2 in 7 innings. Pitching for that game were Markos Garcia and William Archuleta. Pirates scoring both runs was Noah Lundstrom. The Pirates had two RBIs by senior Dominic Martinez and Noah Lundstrom. Move forward to the most re

Move forward to the most recent game on Monday, May 17, the Pirates hosted the St. Pius Spartans and were defeated 14-8. Senior Dominic Martinez had three RBIs in that contest followed by Junior Tyler Everhart with two and a trio of Pirates had one apiece. Pirates Martinez and Mauricio Chavez scored two runs apiece and four other Pirates with one apiece.

Next up for the Pirates will be a district road game against rival Valencia Jaguars, who are 5-7,0- 1

“They (Valencia) are going to be decent. They have the talent and will be in the thick of it, this whole district, is big on the baseball tradition,” said Sarracino of that upcoming game.

The lady Pirates softball team is currently 0-10 and will play away on Tuesday, May 18 against district rival, the lady Sartans of St. Pius (8-1).
