MILAN, NM – The construction on Airport Road in the Village of Milan was meant to begin on August 22, 2022 but didn’t actually start until September due to the Village deciding to add an entire water line. Compass Engineering, the company that won the bid, is steadily working down one of the main arteries in the Village and working cautiously. According to Village Clerk/Project Manager Denise Baca, “It’s a really long road with a lot of sewer, gas, and water lines. They have to be cautious, but they’re out there working every day. It’ll be beautiful when it’s done.” Baca stated the road work for Phase 1 should be done in the month of April. “We’ve been approved for funding for Phase 2 and 3, but we don’t have start dates set yet.”

The Airport Road Reconstruction Project Phase 1 is a large roadway and drainage enterprise that includes: a pedestrian access roadway and drainage improvements including full roadway reconstruction, new storm drain installation, concrete sidewalks, concrete barrier curb and gutters, concrete drive pad, valley gutter, permanent signing and striping, and ADA access ramps. The estimated cost of Phase 1 is $2.6 million dollars, according to Construction Journal.
