Fire Danger has been reduced to moderate. The Village of Milan has discontinued the burn ban within the Village of Milan limits.

As per ordinance #253 citizens, property owners, and businesses must obtain a burn permit from the Fire Department prior to burning. Burn permits can be obtained from the fire station located at 803 Motel Dr., Milan, NM and will only be issued for up to seven days and open burning is only allowed during daylight hours, sunup to sun set, unless specified in the permit. Fires must be put out and cold at sundown.

You must have a burn permit before you commence with an open burn or you will be cited.

No burning of trash is permitted. Materials to be burned are to be of natural vegetation, i.e., brush, small tree limbs, and shrubs, and unpainted or treated lumber.

No open burning will be allowed when wind speed exceeds ten (10) MPH. Open burning shall not be conducted within fifty (50) feet of any structure or other combustible materials.

Fire extinguishment equipment: A garden hose connected to a water supply or other approved fire extinguishing equipment shall be readily available for use at open burning sites.

Burning material shall be constantly attended to by a person knowledgeable in the use of the fire extinguishing equipment and familiar with the permit limitation which restricts open burning. An attendant shall supervise the burning material until the fire has been extinguished.

Burn permits can be revoked/voided by the Fire Chief, his designee, and or the Village Manager at any time.
