GRANTS, N.M. – Candelaria Sports Complex, also known as Wells Park, is closed until further notice while a contractor installs new poles and lighting at the facility.
The City of Grants Recreation Department announced the closure effective Sept. 21, saying the complex will remain closed for safety while work is underway.
The project is part of ongoing improvements at the sports complex. In December 2025, the New Mexico Department of Finance and Administration announced recreation grant funding for the City of Grants tied to lighting and fencing improvements at Candelaria.
Earlier this summer, Grants Mayor Erik Garcia told the Cibola Citizen that upgrades at the complex were part of a broader city effort to improve recreation facilities, safety and park conditions across Grants.
The city has not yet announced a reopening date. Residents should avoid the complex while contractors are working onsite.
