The Cibola County Federation of Democratic Women held an event on June 4 that was a Family Fun Day with a Meet and Greet your Local and Statewide Candidates. To promote a Get out to Vote Campaign on the last day of Early Voting. We had quite a turnout of candidates who are running for their political seat from our United States Representative District 2 Candidate Gabriel Vasquez and Darshan Patel; running for Attorney General Brian Colon; State Auditor Zackary Quintero; State Treasurer Laura Montoya; State Representative Eliseo Alcon; State Representative Harry Garcia and write in candidate Marvin Trujillo for State Representative; and the local Sheriff Candidates Larry Diaz, Maxine Monte, Steve Chavez, Tomas Archuleta and Kimry Ward; County Commissioners Ralph Lucero and Christine Lowery; and Magistrate Judge Tony Mace and Probate Judge Marie Garcia.

The CCFDW did a moment of silence for Rita Thompson who was lifelong, strong Democrat who supported and campaigned for Democrats in our community. She worked very hard for every Democrat in Cibola County to get them elected, like former Senator Clemente Sanchez, Representatives Harry Garcia and Lee Alcon. And one other very important event is that we had Father Avilla who said our opening prayer for us

The event began with the Pueblo of Acoma American Legion Post 116 Color Guard presentation of the United State Flag and Pledge of Allegiance. The crowd enjoy free music which was provided by DJ Leo, Kids enjoyed the Jumper provided for fun and face painting for the kids with free hot dogs, chips, soda and water for the families to enjoy. All candidates were provided an opportunity to do a live interview with KMIN’s Derek Underhill to hear the candidates and their platform. Our Cibola County Federation of Democratic Women Booth served as our welcoming table that included a raffle with beautiful Acoma Pottery given away at the end of our event. The booth was there throughout the Fire and Ice park and was set up with members of our own Cibola County Federation of Democratic Women with their Booth, Laguna Federation of Democratic Women, and the Candidates as well

Former State Senator Clemente Sanchez as well as Candidate Larry Diaz assisted and moved the program along introducing our candidates and leaders. Our local leaders in attendance included City Councilor George Garcia, Former Cibola County Sheriff and Judge Manuel Lujan and his beautiful wife MaryLou, City Councilor and New Mexico Federation of Democratic Women Beverly Michael, and Pueblo of Acoma Judge Randy Collins. It was a great day with great weather inviting our community, families and children to come and have a nice time.

This was a big undertaking by our Cibola County Federation of Democratic Women as a first of its kind event with a big thank you to Kathy Gonzales, together we helped to bring this event together and to have the support of our Federation and the community behind this event.
