Cibola absconder arrested in Texas

PANOLA COUNTY, T.X. – Anthony Rains, 30, wanted by New Mexico’s 13th Judicial District Court on a warrant, was arrested on November 1 by Panola County, Texas, Sheriff’s Deputy Robert Duncan. Rains was arrested for failure to appear at court back in December of 2019 in Cibola County, New Mexico. Panola Deputies arrested and booked Rains into the Panola County Detention Center in Gary, T.X.

Aug. 20, 2019

In 2019 Rains was charged with Non-Residential Burglary; Larceny (Over $500 but not more than $2,500); Criminal Damage to Property (Over $1000); Conspiracy to Commit Larceny (Over $500 but not more than $2,500); Conspiracy to Commit Non-Residential Burglary. He was seen in the Cibola County 13th Judicial District Court on November 4, 2019, where he was set up with a plea conference on December 5, 2019.

On December 4, 2019, a demand “for Notice of Intention to Claim the Defense of Not Guilty by Reason of Insanity or Inability to Form Specific Intent” was ordered by the court. On December 5, the day of the plea conference, Rains did not show up and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Jan. 3, 2019

In a separate case, Rains is charged with two counts of Abuse of a Child (Does Not Result in Death or Great Bodily Harm); Aggravated Fleeing a Law Enforcement Officer; Use or Possession of Drug Paraphernalia; No Proof of Insurance; Open Container (Drink) (1st Offense); No Driver's License; Littering (on public property). These charges were filed January 3, 2019.

Rains case was scheduled for a December 5 plea hearing, the same date as the plea conference he was scheduled to have a plea hearing on a different case. When the day came, he was nowhere to be found.

Rains’ cases nearly fell to the wayside two years later, but is reignited as he was arrested by Texas authorities on November 1, 2021. As of press time Rains remained in custody in Texas.
