GRANTS, N.M. - There is a lot of uncertainty surrounding the upcoming holidays this year and the normal traditions that pertain to them. There have not been any official rules set in regard to these traditions [as of press time], but families are being encouraged to either stay home and create new traditions or participate in events that will allow for social distancing and minimal contact.

Future Foundations Family Center, Grants Recreation Department, and the Grants Public Library have decided to get creative and separately put together a virtual costume contest, a virtual pumpkin carving contest, and a community scavenger hunt.

Future Foundations and the city recreation department are hosting the virtual contests. There are two divisions available for entry – the ‘ages 16 and under’ and the ‘ages 17 and over’ division. Each contest began Oct. 19 and entries will be accepted through Thursday, Oct. 29. Submissions should include a picture of the entry, the name of the participant, the division in which they are entering, and their contact info, all compiled into an email which should be sent to recreation@grantsnm.gov.

The winners will be announced on Friday, Oct. 30. Prizes will be awarded in each division for the winners - first, second, and third.

As far as the community scavenger hunt goes, this is an event that is being coordinated by the Grants Public Library. It is a free event which will take place at the library, 1101 North First St., Grants, on Saturday, Oct. 31. The hunt will last from 1 - 4 p.m. It starts and ends at the library. Library staff commented the goal is to offer fun for the whole family and they ask that an adult accompany any children who participate.

Additional information will be released on the Grants Public Library Facebook page, according to the event organizers.
