Construction on a New Mesa View and Bluewater Elm to Start Soon

GRANTS, N.M. – According to Superintendent Max Perez, the project to build a new Mesa View Elementary School is estimated to take place in the spring of 2023, sometime between March and April is the projected date. It will be built adjacent to the current Mesa View in the empty field. The City of Grants has already passed plans and have the money ready to build a new road that will pass through where the current school stands. The demolition of the current Mesa View will not occur until sometime after the new building is constructed.

District Bonds total $10,000,000. Expected funding shared with the PSFA (Public School Facilities Authority) will be a 76/24 split on the cost. The expected total cost for Mesa View Elementary is $25,666,000. At 24 percent, the district share would be $6,156,840. Bluewater Elementary is estimated to have its groundbreaking in January or February of 2023, and will share the budget of Mesa View. Expected total cost for Bluewater Elementary is $9,020,000. At 24 percent, the district share would be $2,164,800. Total expected cost for both schools is $34,686,000. Total district share is $8,321,640. This will leave a remainder of $1,678,360 of bond funds.

The number of classrooms, teachers, and students is expected to remain the same in the new Mesa View Elementary. The building will have specific air filters in order to continue limiting the spread of COVID-19 in the future. It will also have up-todate security measures in place to help ensure the safety of children and staff members in the future. Superintendent Perez also stated that the people working with them on the details have gone above and beyond to ensure the quality of the project planning. However, the project's full timeline is still uncertain at this point in time.
