WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of Labor will hold three information sessions in New Mexico between Sept. 10 and 12 for current and former nuclear weapons workers - including uranium miners, millers and ore transporters - and their survivors on benefits available under the federal Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation Program Act.

“The U.S. Department of Labor encourages all former nuclear weapons workers, including uranium miners, millers and ore transporters, and their families to attend these events to learn more about eligibility for benefits under the Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation Program Act,” said Division of Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation Director Rachel Pond. “Event attendees can file claims or obtain information about existing claims.”

Administered by the Office of Workers Compensation Programs, the Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation Program Act provides benefits to current or former employees, or the survivors, of the Department of Energy, its predecessor agencies, and certain vendors, contractors and subcontractors, who suffered work-related illnesses caused by exposure to radiation, beryllium, or silica at covered facilities.

OWCP representatives will be available in Church Rock, Grants and Albuquerque to answer questions, assist in filing claims or provide claim status. Services are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Open to the public, the event requires no preregistration to attend.
