The Timberlake Fuels Reduction Project plans to restore 4,650 acres on the Mount Taylor Ranger District to a more fire resilient ecosystem.

GRANTS, NM Cibola National Forest and National Grasslands have proposed a project called 'Timberlake Fuels Reduction Project' to restore 4,650 acres on the Mount Taylor Ranger District to a more fire resilient ecosystem.

This is the southwestern portion of the Zuni Mountains and is located in both Cibola and McKinley Counties. The project would be accomplished through mechanical thinning, hand thinning, and prescribed fire.

According to Cibola National Forest and National Grasslands, scoping comments are currently being sought for the project in order to identify any unknown issues before it begins. Comments that are within the scope of, are specific to, and have a direct relationship to the proposed action with supporting reasons are the most useful. Individuals and organizations that desire to comment must provide the following: - Name and current physical mailing address. - Title of the project. (Proposed action: Timberlake Fuels Reduction) - Comments on the proposed action with supporting reasons to be considered in reaching a decision. - Signature or other verification of identity upon request.
