BERNALILLO COUNTY, N.M. – On December 5 New Mexico State Police investigated a fatal accident on Interstate 40 near milepost 156.

While the accident remains under investigation, NMSP said in a statement that a 2022 Freightliner semi-truck began to slowdown for traffic caused by an earlier accident. A 2005 Hyundai car, for unknown reasons, failed to slow down for the traffic and crashed into the back of the semi-truck.

According to NMSP, the driver and passenger of the semi-truck were properly wearing their seatbelts when the accident occurred. The driver of the Hyundai, identified as 25-year-old Mickey Ramirez of Albuquerque, was not properly wearing his seatbelt.

NMSP said that alcohol appears to be a factor in the accident and are investigating the crash further.
