GRANTS, N.M. – According to the U.S. Forest Service, fire danger across Cibola National Forest & National Grasslands varies significantly by district.

Mount Taylor Ranger District, which includes areas northeast of Grants and near Bluewater Lake, is currently classified as High Fire Danger, reflecting ongoing drought conditions, warm temperatures, and dry fuels. Nearby ranger districts, including Magdalena, Sandia, and Mountainair, remain at Moderate Fire Danger. Meanwhile, the Black Kettle / McClellan Creek and Kiowa-Rita Blanca national grasslands are classified at Low Fire Danger, indicating better moisture conditions in those regions.
