Remember that fire danger is possible without proper storage and care when using firewood. All it takes is a spark to cause a fire to spread. According to George Ducker, Wildfire Prevention and Communications Coordinator of the New Mexico State Forestry Division, you should look around and clear out anything close to your home that will be easily flammable. Keep excess firewood away from potential sparks or flames. This will minimize the odds of a fire spreading.
