LAGUNA, N.M. – More than three months after she was last seen, Brittany Starr Waconda remains missing.
Waconda, 39, was last seen on May 18, 2026, in Laguna, New Mexico, according to missing person information from the New Mexico Department of Public Safety. As of Aug. 25, 2026, she has not been located.
Authorities describe Waconda as an American Indian/Alaska Native woman with brown eyes and red or auburn hair. She is 5 feet, 2 inches tall and weighs approximately 200 pounds. She was born July 16, 1986. Authorities also note she has an unknown tattoo on her left arm.
Anyone with information about Waconda’s whereabouts is asked to contact the Laguna Tribal Police Department at 505-552-6685. Information may also be reported to the New Mexico Department of Public Safety Missing Person Hotline at 1-800-457-3463. The Cibola Citizen has attempted to contact the Laguna Tribal Police Department multiple times for additional information about the case but had not received a response as of press time.
Waconda’s disappearance comes amid the continuing crisis of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Families, often referred to as MMIWF. Families, advocates and tribal communities have long called for greater attention, faster communication and stronger public awareness when Indigenous people go missing.
