GRANTS, N.M. – City of Grants saw significant sales of marijuana in May. Marijuana is a quickly growing industry in New Mexico, and Grants is seeing a boom in sales since recreational use of the drug was legalized.
Through the month of May, the City of Grants saw $165,851.55 in medical marijuana sales. Throughout the month of May, the city saw a larger $186,620.50 in adult recreational marijuana sales.
In the State of New Mexico, only adults aged 18 or older can purchase recreational marijuana. Recreation-based sales of marijuana are taxed, medical-based sales have never been taxed on gross receipts, but communities can write off those medical sales on their gross receipts tax returns.
In total, the City of Grants sold $352,472.05 worth of marijuana in the month of May.
