GRANTS, N.M. –

A missing man from Grants, 69-year-old Jesus “Jessi” Hernandez, was discovered by his wife on May 30 and taken to Grants Police Department. Hernandez was unharmed.

On May 26, Hernandez was at Cibola General Hospital, he was wearing blue sweatpants, and a red shirt. For unknown reasons, around 9 p.m., Hernandez walked out of the hospital and could not be located.

The initial call originated from CGH on May 27, according to Grants Police Chief Jeff Marez. This prompted GPD to begin looking for Hernandez. Police investigators believed Hernandez walked out of the hospital and was somewhere in the vicinity of Cibola General.

Hernandez was 69, standing 5’8” and weighing 225 pounds. Grants Police Department alerted the New Mexico State Police to his disappearance and together the agencies worked to find him.

According to Chief Marez, Hernandez’ wife discovered him, but because the case is under investigation, details will not be released. After discovering Hernandez, his wife took him to GPD so the case could be closed and then took him home. Anyone who believes a family member may have wondered off can call the police to alert them, unlike in the movies, the sooner local police are alerted to a person’s potential disappearance, the sooner they can focus their efforts on finding the missing person.
