GRANTS, N.M. - Burress Barber Shop officially opened its doors to the community during its April 1 Grand Opening. The family business is located on 110 West Santa Fe Avenue. The owners, Levi Burress and Hailey Burress, have both been residents of Cibola County for many years.

Levi and Hailey have maintained their jobs in the nursing field. After their child started school, Hailey decided to attend barber college and become a certified hairdresser. The two had been talking about opening a barber shop during the past five years. Their plans became a reality when the Burresses heard about the availability of the Santa Fe Avenue location. The couple had originally considered purchasing another local barber shop that had closed three years ago, but then decided to wait because they were expecting a newborn.

The timing worked out in 2021, and the Burresses jumped at the opportunity to claim the location in downtown Grants. They began preparations for the Grand Opening event earlier this year.

They acknowledged that the whole preparation process for opening was “last minute.”

Levi commented about the big day, “We were like really, really nervous about opening today, but we were determined to make it happen, so we’re really, really excited.”

Now that they have accomplished the first step of opening, the Burresses feel excited to offer services to the community. Burress Barber Shop currently has a variety of quality men’s products, along with some women’s products.

Levi explained that because of the numerous women’s hairdressing shops in the area, they hope that their barber shop will bring something new to Grants.

“There are a lot of women’s shops in town… we do have women’s products. And we’ll probably expand that line if people ask us to, but we want to focus on male-oriented products. You know, there’s not much in town for men, so that’s what we were looking at – to cater to the people that have to go to Albuquerque or Gallup to get the things that they need,” explained Levi.

The owners are hoping to first establish a steady clientele, and then they will see how they should expand their products and services. They also might be looking to hire another barber soon.

The shop’s business hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays.

“We plan on being here for a long time and serving the community of Grants,” emphasized the owners.
