Officer involved shooting

LAGUNA, N.M. – On October 23, there was an officer involved shooting on Interstate 40 near Laguna, New Mexico. The incident brought freeway traffic to a standstill for several hours. This was the third such event in the past two months.

The shooting is under investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the U.S. Bureau of Indian Affairs, the New Mexico State Police and the Cibola County Sheriff’s Office. Public details were unavailable by press time.

Laguna police officers operate with federal authority, so the FBI is investigating the shooting.

According to the FBI and CCSO, one adult suspect was transported to the University of New Mexico Hospital in Albuquerque, N.M. That suspect is in stable condition. At least one suspect was armed and one deputy from CCSO was also involved.

The sheriff’s deputy was not harmed during the incident, according to the FBI and CCSO.
