GRANTS, NM – In the early morning, before break of day on May 22, a resident on the 800 block of North Sage Avenue was awoken by the sound of a person trying to enter their home. Grants Police Department located and identified DeWayne Hudson, Jr. as a person of interest and placed him under arrest for a drunk and disorderly charge after having him medically cleared at Cibola General Hospital.

Police were called at 2:02 a.m., asking for a dispatch to N. Sage, requesting a house check. The caller gave police a description of the person they allege attempted to enter their home. According to the report, the suspect was wearing a black hoodie and blue jeans. Grants Police Department combed the area and found a man walking in the street who matched the description.

Police stopped to ask the man, identified as 24year-old Hudson, what he was doing in the area. Hudson told officers that he was trying to walk home. According to the arrest report, officers observed Hudson had slurred speech and bloodshot eyes, they noted the strong scent of alcohol on his breath. Officers asked Hudson for his address, which he refused to give multiple times. Because he was allegedly intoxicated to a point where he was slurring, struggling to move on his own, and would not give his address, officers placed Hudson under arrest on a drunk and disorderly charge. They took Hudson to Cibola General Hospital where he was medically cleared and later taken to Cibola County Correctional Center in Milan, NM, for incarceration.
