GRANTS, NM – A violent altercation erupted at Grants Apartments on December 18 when officers were dispatched to Cordova Court in response to a fight in progress. The incident involved multiple parties and left several individuals injured.

Law enforcement officers with Grants Police Department, received the call around 3:59 PM and quickly arrived at the scene. Cibola Regional Communications Center had received reports of a female engaged in a physical altercation with property manager and her daughter. A male witness also reported being scratched during the altercation.

Upon arrival, Officer Robinson encountered the property manager and her daughter, the report states both were visibly distressed, with the daughter telling police she was suffering from a hand injury sustained during the altercation. The male witness and his grandmother were also present, the report stated the man had multiple small lacerations on his face. Both the mother and daughter explained that the incident began with an argument involving Lakeisha Nez, who was allegedly experiencing withdrawals from Fentanyl and heavily intoxicated. According to witnesses, Nez initiated the altercation by attacking him and scratching his face. Although the male witness received medical attention from EMS, he was not transported to the hospital.

The property manager told officers she heard the altercation outside the office and intervened when she saw Nez attacking the male witness. Lakeisha then turned her aggression towards the manager, allegedly assaulting her by grabbing her hair and striking her in the face, causing the manager to fall to the ground. The manager’s daughter attempted to intervene on behalf of her mother, but she too became a target, suffering injuries that allegedly included a bitten hand and a scratch on her cheek.

Nez eventually stopped the assault and offered an apology, but she later resumed attacking the manager and her daughter, who allegedly lost a fingernail during the altercation. Both manager and daughter were in need of transportation via EMS to Cibola General Hospital for medical evaluation and treatment.

Following the initial incident, officers read Nez her Miranda Rights, and she agreed to speak with him. However, Nez appeared disoriented and failed to provide a coherent account of the altercation, other than mentioning that the male had allegedly struck her first. Officers wrote that they had observed no visible injuries on Nez at that time.

As officers attempted to transfer Nez from one police vehicle to another, she allegedly became uncooperative and physically resistant. She made multiple attempts to harm herself, including banging her head against the vehicle and other objects. Officers resorted to the use of a taser and physical restraints to gain control of the situation.

Nez was transported to Cibola General Hospital for medical evaluation before being cleared for incarceration. She was subsequently taken to Core Civic for detention.
