Weeks ago, an Araon Baca sent me a Facebook message wanting me to call him on a phone number with a Las Vegas area code.
At first, I just ignored it, not knowing who it was.
Then, someone told me he had been involved in a police shooting incident at Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. I did an internet search and found a narrative about it on Facebook.
In that Facebook video, it detailed the shooting Baca was involved in as follows: 'Mohamed Mahmoud [the suspect] walked towards Officer Baca’s vehicle and fired approximately two to four rounds at him. Officer Baca fled southbound in the parking lot.
“Approximately two and a half minutes later Officer Bunitsky arrived. Officer Bunitsky exited his patrol vehicle and was immediately taking fire from Mahmoud. Officer Bunitsky took cover behind a palm tree and returned fire. Baca failed to provide any additional information about Mahmoud’s location for arriving officers.
“Now retired LVMPD Officer Bryon Bunitsky, was awarded the LVMPD Medal of Valor for his actions that day. Officer Aaron Baca, was fired from LVMPD, appealed his firing through arbitration and lost. Baca was subsequently hired as an officer with a Nevada Tribal police force. I heard a few months back that he is running for sheriff in New Mexico.”
I answered Baca back and asked him if this incident in fact involved him, he confirmed it was him and gave me several reasons why the above depiction was inaccurate.
I didn't agree with his explanations because they didn't make sense.
I have since found out Baca has been working at the Grants Police Department and is now running for Sheriff as the Republican candidate in Cibola County. I advised people to vote Republican for some time now, but in this case, I believe the current Democratic Sheriff incumbent would be the much better choice.
