GRANTS, N.M. – Two candidates that are running for public office in the City of Grants have had signs stolen from them and are seeking community assistance to bring the thefts to a halt. Mayor Pro tem Rick Lucero and Councilor Fred Rodarte, who are running for retention of a council seat and mayor respectively, have seen some mild vandalism. Certain signs of theirs have gone missing from across the city.

Grants Police Chief Jeff Marez explained that without an eyewitness accounting or video of the thefts, there is little that can be done about the political thefts. Pro tem Lucero explained that he had called GPD to inform them about the thefts and asked if there was anything that could be done. To help stifle political thefts, GPD increased their presence in areas with high concentration of political signs, especially in residential areas, to prevent this issue from striking residences. No other candidate for public office has reported thefts of their political signage.
