GRANTS, N.M. — Community member Jeremy Tom has been working with cars since he was in high school. Around that time, Tom began detailing his family member’s vehicles for some extra cash. “They would be happy about it and they kept telling me, ‘You should open a detailing shop,’ and I didn’t really consider it at that time because I thought Grants was going to kind of go downhill and I didn’t know where to begin. Plus, I was just still a teenager,” said Tom. A few years later, in 2017, Tom began working for Ed Corley Ford Sales, Inc. and that is where he started to consider the idea of stepping more seriously into the detailing business. “I always had a thing about vehicles. You know, I always liked the fact of the before and after, making it clean, and just, that’s what got me into it, was when I used to work at Ed Corley’s,” reflected Tom.

According to Tom, the final event that motivated him to take action on starting a detailing business was an experience he had in 2019, involving COVID-19 and his faith. “It was always crossing my mind, but back in 2019, when I got hit with COVID in November… God spoke to me about it. God spoke to me about it telling me to open a detailing business…” shared Tom. “So when I was sick at that time and I was barely recovering and... it was the first time I had COVID and I was scared and didn’t know what to do, and then God spoke to me and He goes, ‘I’m going to use you in a mighty way…’”

When Tom finally recovered, he decided to finally get the ball rolling in regard to his detailing business. Tom spent the years of 2019 and 2020 preparing, and then he officially received a business license to open up Tom’s Detailing, LLC in 2021. Tom’s Detailing currently operates out of Tom’s residence as a home-based business, but Tom said that as his profits increase, he plans on transitioning to mobile operations and possibly seeking a car shop to work out of. Tom said his business hours are usually between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Customers are encouraged to call either 505-290-4557 or 505- 290-5061 to set up a detailing appointment. Tom’s Detailing, LLC offers a variety of detailing services, such as a quick wash, full hand wash, basic detail, wash and wax, complete interior detail, deluxe detail, and an ultimate detail. Each detailing package includes a different set of services, so customers have options to choose from. According to a flyer on Tom’s Detail, LLC Facebook page, there is an additional charge of $10 for vehicles with pet hair, and prices may vary due to the condition of each vehicle.

Not only did Tom’s faith inspire his detailing business, but Tom involves his faith in his work as well by privately praying for each customer while he details their vehicle. Tom further shared, “They can come to me and get their vehicle detailed and stuff, but whenever I do it, the part that I enjoy most about doing detailing is when I’m praying.” According to Tom, even the name of the business is dedicated to his faith, adding that he felt compelled to call the business Tom’s Detailing because it also stands for “Trinity of Mobile Detailing.” Tom also shared that whenever he thought about beginning a marketing campaign through the local newspaper, he felt compelled to hold off for some reason. A few weeks later, to Tom’s surprise, the Cibola Citizen reached out for a story. “I’m not the type of person… I’m a humble person, you know. I’m not here to say, ‘Oh I have a business. I have this.’ I just let God take control. You know, He guided me and sure enough, this opportunity came up and about,” said Tom about this experience. Tom said he is looking forward to welcoming new customers in the year of 2022, and he encourages anyone who wants their car detailed to reach out to 505-290- 4557 or 505-290-5061 to set up an appointment.
