Early Tuesday morning an SUV, driven by an unidentified male driver, crashed into an apartment unit at the Lobo Canyon Apartments where four unidentified individuals were occupying.

According to Grants Police Lieutenant David Chavez, there were two adults and two juveniles in the residence.

“The vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed, from the North Hills area, crossed through a field went airborne and crashed into the apartment, number 417,” Chavez said. “There were four people in the house, two adult males and two children: one male and one female. The female child, a three-year-old, was deceased on scene.”

Chavez said the driver of the SUV was taken to the Cibola General Hospital and questioned, but the cause of the crash is still under investigation.

“The male [uncle of the children] was lifeflighted to UNM hospital and the other two residents were treated at Cibola General Hospital, but we [GPD] do not know if they have been released.”

Chavez said four units at Lobo Canyon Apartments were deemed unsafe for living by the Grants Fire Department and were evacuated until structural engineers can come in and inspect the units.
