NEW MEXICO - Democratic National Committee Chair Tom Perez, Congressional candidate Teresa Leger Fernandez, and actor Jonathan Del Arco joined Biden for President and Hispanics for Biden for a stop in New Mexico for the ¡Voy a Votar! Virtual Bus Tour, Oct. 2, to discuss why we need to elect Joe Biden and Kamala Harris and the importance of volunteering with the Biden campaign. The trio joined leaders in New Mexico’s Hispanic community to highlight what’s at stake this year and to discuss Joe Biden’s vision for the Hispanic community. The event is part of a virtual tour traveling the country in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month to promote voter education and increase awareness about upcoming vote-bymail deadlines and early voting, which starts on October 6th in New Mexico.

DNC Chair Tom Perez: “Joe Biden and Kamala Harris are never going to give up on folks. They’re never going to stop fighting. And they understand that unless and until we fix the coronavirus, unless and until we get a handle on that, we can’t fix the economy, we can’t get schools back to normal, we can’t get our lives back to normal! That is what is so necessary…Everybody has a fundamental right to go to work in the morning and come home at night safe and sound. Joe Biden will make sure that that principle is vindicated once again…We have health care on the ballot on November 3rd…Dreamers are on the ballot this November…Everything we care and know of, as a nation, is on the ballot…Latinos can be the difference maker in every single area, in so many critical battleground states, like New Mexico. Latinos can be the difference maker!”

Congressional Candidate Teresa Leger Fernandez: “…Biden and Harris, they share the same love that we all do for our community...Biden and Harris, when you listen to them talk...they talk from the heart. They talk with strength. And they talk about community and what we care about…that is an idea of rejecting a politics of fear and instead investing in a politics of opportunity. That’s what I hear when I think about Biden and Harris and their plan.”

Actor Jonathan Del Arco: “I find this time incredibly challenging, but, also, I think on the other side of that are great opportunities. And one of the great opportunities is that we, as a Hispanic community, can really create the change we want in this country…It’s just astonishing how we are such a deep fabric of this country. When people ask me about the Latino vote or the Hispanic vote, I just say, ‘It’s the same as the vote of any other American. We have the same dreams, the same desires, the same needs, the same fears as everyone else.’ We’re not some specialty group that wants anything specific. We just want to be treated with respect. We don’t want to be treated with condescension. And we want our brothers and sisters that are coming here from other nations — the way our families did — to be treated with respect, to be treated as human beings, and that is not happening, and so I think it’s our turn. I hope you all turn out. I hope you get your friends to turn out, and your family. And I am sure New Mexico is going to be blue.”
