GRANTS, N.M. - Heading east in Cibola County to the “nest”, the Laguna-Acoma High School Lady Hawks are currently 11-4 and ranked fourth in 2A.
“We have been really working hard in practice and during games to improve on our mistakes,” said Lady Hawk head coach Jolynn Martinez.
“We are trying to keep the same energy that we bring out to the court for every game and practice.”
The Lady Hawks last four games were in the “W” category, they defeated Legacy Academy (7-10) by a score of 52-23 on January 10. Brianna Carrillo was the highest scorer in that game with 19 points.
On January 12, they defeated Zuni (5-11), 49-44. The high scorer for the Hawks was Tavani Scott with 13 points.
The Lady Hawks then went on to defeat the 3-7 Bosque Prep by a score of 47-24 on January 13th. Jasysie Garcia was high scorer with 22 points in that game. Sandia Prep (9-6) fell to the Hawks by a score of 51-40 on January 17th. Jaysie Garcia had 17 points to lead the Lady Hawks in that contest.
“We are just ready to play the game we know on the court while our girls meet their goals as a team,” said Martinez.
The Lady Hawks will play a tough 12-5 Tohajillee team on January 20 at “the nest” in a non-district game. They will start their district play with Dulce (9-5) on January 22 at home. Dulce is second in district 2A.
The Laguna-Acoma Hawks Boys’ basketball team is currently 2-11 and will play their next game against a non-district opponent, To’hajillee (10-7) at home on January 20.
