GRANTS, N.M. - The Grants High School Football Team hosted a recent 7 on 7 with Miyamura and Laguna-Acoma last week. GHS head football coach Gene Riedinger said of the four games that were played, “We played well – we improved and everybody played – we had a varsity and JV team.”

Riedinger was proud that the Pirates won the line man challenge, which included the weightlifting and tug of war.

Riedinger was pleased to see that the receivers ran better routes, something they worked on heavily this summer.

At the crucial quarterback position, Riedinger and his staff are still not settled on a quarterback yet. Riedinger was content with the performance of the two top candidates for the QB job, “Both quarterbacks improved and had a chance to get better.”

The team will be in the 4th of July parade this week and Riedinger encourages the public to greet the team.

Starting next week they will have a defensive week and then an offensive week and late in July they plan another 7 on 7.

“We have a good turnout this summer and we have good energy levels,” said Riedinger.
