Malcolm Instilling his Vision

GRANTS, N.M. - Second year head coach John Malcolm, who has been involved with Pirate boys soccer for over 6 years, feels this year the team is buying into his vision.

“They are coming together —starting to see the vision that I have been instilling,” he said. “This is the first group to be coached by me and me only.”

Malcolm and his team are eager to “show what we have been working on.”

The team according to Malcolm is pretty well rounded. “That will make us dangerous,” he said. “Everybody will do their part–if someone is slacking someone will pick it up–we are not reliant on one person.”

Malcolm believes his leadership is spread out through the team. The team, which is made up primarily of sophomores, is rather young this year–but competitive according to Malcolm. They only lost 2 last year to graduation.

“The summer workouts have been going well,” he said. “I have more players out than I expected.”

The upcoming season also has a district team change for the boys soccer team, St. Pius was replaced by Hope Christian.

“Hope Christian has been up there, they have been ranked 3,4,5 consistently, “said Malcolm.

The Pirates have their first game of the season August 25.

Summing the interview up Malcom said, “Our 11 will take anybody else's 11 on any given day.
