This biographical drama was written and produced by college-roommate and friend, William Bast. It's a personal recollection of Dean's life during the years they knew each other they knew each other in college. This film focuses on the mens' friendship as well as on Dean's Hollywood career Prior to the big three Hollywood movies —— 'East of Eden,' 'Rebel Without a Cause,' and 'Giant,' Dean began acting in college at Santa Monica City College and University of California of Los Angeles.
His first professional job was a commercial for Coca-Cola on tv. He worked with tv actors Ruth Hussey, Roddy McDowell, etc. He worked in radio dramas. He had bit parts in movies and met fellow actors. Dean Martin, Jerry Lewis, Rock Hudson, Natalie Wood, and Ronald Reagan.
He was chosen (with only one other student) out of 150 applicants to join the prestigious Actors Studio in NYC. Classes and auditions filled his daily life. One audition earned him the lead role in 'East of Eden.' So ...... he was off to Southern California, where his legend began.
