BLUEWATER LAKE, N.M. — Fishing reports remained quiet this week at both Bluewater Lake and the Grants Riverwalk Pond, but several important conditions remain in place as fall settles into Cibola County. Bluewater continues under a Harmful Algae Bloom Warning Advisory, lake levels edged slightly lower, and no new stocking was reported.

Bluewater Lake

The most recent fishing report for Bluewater Lake was received Sept. 24. At that time, fishing for tiger muskie was SLOW when using swimbaits.

New Mexico State Parks continues to report a blue-green algae bloom at Bluewater Lake and advises visitors to swim or recreate at their own risk. Visitors should avoid visible algae, keep pets away from affected shoreline areas and continue to follow posted safety guidance. State Parks’ latest posted lake conditions list boating as EXCELLENT, with the reservoir at an elevation of 7,364.000 feet and an estimated volume of 3,028 acre-feet. USGS provisional readings show Bluewater at 7,364.22 feet on Oct. 6 and 7,364.11 feet on Oct. 13, a decline of 0.11 feet over the week.

Fireworks and wood gathering are prohibited within the park, and OHVs, ATVs and dirt bikes are not allowed within park boundaries.

Grants Riverwalk Pond

There were no reported catches and no new stocking at the Grants Riverwalk Pond this week.
