Ustupski moves to Cibola County
MILAN, N.M. – The Honorable Willie Jaramillo, Village of Milan municipal judge, administered the Oath of Office to the new police chief last Wednesday.
The Feb. 17 ceremony was held at the Milan municipal courthouse. All village buildings are currently closed to public access during the pandemic.
The Milan Board of Trustees voted unanimously at a Feb. 8 meeting to offer the position of police chief to Carl Ustupski. (Trustee Chris Archuleta was unable to participate in the special meeting.)
Village Manager Sarah Austin said Ustupski is expected to assume his duties around March 8 after he relocates from his current residence in Wisconsin.
The new MPD chief’s career in law enforcement spans 14 years. Ustupski started his career in 2006 when he joined the Grants Police Department.
Manager Austin acknowledged that Ustupski was the only applicant to respond in the most recent round of advertising for the position.
“I want to welcome him to Milan,” she said. “I think he will do a great job.”
