Hawks 21-1 to State as Number One Seed

Bump—Set–Dominate—the Lady Hawks of the Laguna-Acoma High School Volleyball Team is off to the state tournament with an impressive 21-1, 6-0 record. As the number one seed, they will receive a bye in the first round of the state volleyball tournament and will play the winner of eighth ranked Hagerman High School (14-9, 6-2) and the ninth seeded Menaul High School (16-5, 6-0). The Lady Hawks will play next on Thursday, November 10 at 3 p.m. at V. Sue Cleveland High School in Rio Rancho.

On a side note, the Lady Hawks Cinderella season was derailed by Santa Fe Indian School on November 5. The Santa Fe team handed the Lady Hawks their first defeat off the season, 3-2. The Lady Hawks, to their credit, battled it out for five matches, not giving in to the Lady Braves easily, 25-21, 18-25, 21-25, 25-23 and 15-- 11. The Laguna-Acoma boys Cross Country Team took third place at the New Mexico Activities Association cross country meet over the weekend with 76 points. Tagoya Pedro led the Hawks by placing second with a time of 16:58:07. Fellow Hawk, Sheldon Cheromiah came in eighth with a time of 17:24:35. Aiden Kazhe-Chino came in 10th place with a time of 17:29:78 to round out the top placers for the Hawks. Pecos High School took the blue trophy with their 50 points. The Lady Hawks Cross Country team placed eighth in the state cross country tournament this past weekend with a total of 183 points. Erica Martin led the Lady Hawks with an impressive first place finish with a time of 20:20:10. Penasco High School took the blue trophy in that 2A meet with 81 points. Grants High School cross country running phenomenon Laila Martinez came in ninth at the state tournament with a time of 19:50:50 over the weekend. The Lady Pirates placed 10th overall in the meet with 290 points. Los Alamos High School placed first with a total of 31 points.
