November 9 Grants Planning and Zoning Meeting

The Grants Planning and Zoning Commission will meet at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, November 9 at City Hall Council Chambers, 600 W. Santa Fe Avenue. Agendas will be available November 4 at City Hall.

November 10 Special Village of Milan Meeting

A Board of Trustees Special Meeting will be held on Tuesday, November 10, 2022, at 9 a.m. at Village Hall, 623 Uranium Avenue in Milan. Agendas will be available on Monday, November 7. MainStreet Veteran’s Celebration

Grants MainStreet invites you to join us for dinner on Friday, November 11 to the Double 6 Gallery in support of veterans living in and from our community. We want to highlight the incredible amount of service members in our community, and give them the opportunity to share their experiences in the service through art. Gabby's Cafe & Catering/Meal Planning will be catering the event, and veterans from Cibola County will be your artist de jour. MainStreet will conduct a live auction for the pieces provided by these talented service members, so you can have a piece of service in your home or business. GHS Band Honors All Who Serve

Grants High School will present the 20th Annual Veterans Salute- Honoring All Who Served on Thursday, November 10 at 7 pm at the Grants High School Auditorium. Admission is free and everyone is invited to attend. We look forward to seeing everyone at this year's Veterans Salute.

The Golf Course Advisory Board

will meet at 1 p.m. November 10 at Coyote Del Malpais Golf Course located at 2001 George Hanosh Boulevard. Agendas will be available November 7 at Coyote Del Malpais.

November 12 Free Decorating Activity

Cookies, cookies, cookies, everywhere in the Double Six Art Gallery. But these cookies will be unique and one-of-a-kind in appearance. Why? Young artists will decorate them this Saturday, November 12, beginning at 2 p.m. Will the designs be Baroque, Romantic, Impressionistic, Modern, or holiday themed? We’ll find out this Saturday, IF they aren’t eaten immediately!

November 15 Free Computer Classes

Registration for the first free Basic Computer Class is on November 15. The first class will begin January 10 at Grants Public Library. This will be a four-week basic computer course designed for the senior community.

November 16 Grants Recreation Board Meeting

The Grants Recreation Board will meet at 6 p.m., November 16, in the City Hall Council Chambers, 600 W. Santa Fe Avenue. Agendas will be available Nov. 10.

November 19 Free movie – “A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood”

Actor Tom Hanks said his biggest challenge in portraying tv icon Fred Rogers was s-l-o-w-i-n-g down his rate of speaking and movements. If you’re familiar with Fred Rogers and attend the movie, “A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood”, you’ll notice if the actor did his job. Movie day is Saturday, November 19 at 2 p.m. Location is the Double Six Art Gallery on Route 66 / 1001 W. Santa Fe Ave.

Guided Hike to Lobo Canyon Petroglyphs

Join a BLM Park Ranger for a guided hike to Lobo Canyon Petroglyphs site in Cebolla Canyon. Petroglyphs are a part of Native Americans living culture. It reminds them of who they are and where they come from. Where? Meet at La Ventana Natural Arch Parking Area off Highway 117 (Take Exit 89, South on Highway 117 from I-40, it’s about 18 miles to La Ventana Arch) at 10 a.m. and we will caravan to Lobo Canyon Petroglyphs trailhead. Program will last about two hours. It’s an easy hike with a short and steep arroyo crossing to get to the Petroglyphs site. Bring water, hiking sticks, snacks, or sack lunch. Wear sturdy hiking shoes and dress for challenging weather. For information, call the Rio Puerco Field Center 505761-8700.

November 23 Regular Grants City Council Work Session

The regular city council work session is scheduled for Nov. 23 at 3 p.m. in the city hall council chambers, 600 W. Santa Fe Ave. Agendas will be available November 18.

November 24 Senior Citizens Advisory Board Meeting

The Cibola Senior Citizens Advisory Council will meet at 2 p.m. on November 24 at the Senior Citizens Center, 550 Jurassic Court, Grants. Agendas will be available on Nov. 9.

November 26 Free String Art Activity

Spools of thread and needles have given us a history of beautiful artwork, in all cultures. Young artists in this area will practice thread, string, or yarn art at the Double Six Art Gallery, Nov. 26 beginning at 2 p.m. Donations are welcome so a supply can be built. Gallery location is Route 66 / 1001 W. Santa Fe Avenue.

Interpretive-Guided Hike: A Journey into the Past

Join a BLM Park Ranger for a guided hike to Dittert Site within Bureau of Land Management National Conservation area (BLM NCA). Dittert Site is an ancient Pueblo settlement location in Armijo Canyon. The program will last about two to three hours. It is an easy hike, about half a mile round trip, but a steep arroyo crossing to get to Dittert Site. The elevation is about 7,284 feet. Bring water, hiking sticks, snacks, or sack lunch. Participants should wear comfortable hiking boots, wear weather appropriate clothing. Where? Meet at La Ventana Natural Arch parking area off Highway 117 (take exit 89, South of Highway 117 from I-40 it’s about 18 miles to La Ventana Arch) at 9:30 a.m. and we will caravan to Dittert Site. December 3 Free Movie – “The Shop Around the Corner”

The setting for “Shop Around the Corner” is Christmas-time in the Hungarian Capital of Buda (on the right bank) of the Danube River and Pest on the left. The specific store is a fabric shop. Two employees are friends and they are the film’s featured characters. Movie is Saturday, Dec. 3 at 2 pm. In the Double Six Art Gallery on Route 66 / 1001 W. Santa Fe Avenue. December 10 Free Surprise Activity

Last youth activity of the year. On Saturday, December 10, the Double Six Art Gallery hosts your last chance to express your artists’ imagination on a holiday project. Curious? The time is 2 p.m. and gallery location is Route 66 / 1001 W. Santa Fe Avenue. You’ll like your creations so much; you’ll want to display it.
