Traffic Report for June 19 – 30, 2023

NMDOT asks all motorists to obey all traffic signs, use caution, and watch for heavy equipment and construction personnel in all work zones.

PLEASE NOTE: Conditions are subject to change without notice. Double fines for speeding in work zones in effect. DURING BACKUPS, USE BOTH LANES AND TAKE TURNS MERGING. WATCH FOR SLOW MOVING OR STOPPED TRAFFIC. ALLOW EXTRA TIME AND EXPECT DELAYS.

Interstate: I-40, mile marker 44, Coolidge Interchange

El Terrero Construction, LLC (Contractor) continues to work on the eastbound lanes. Eastbound I-40 is reduced to one lane and detoured onto the westbound median shoulder. Westbound has both lanes open. Speed reduced to 55 mph through the work zone. The contractor’s work hours are 7am-6pm, weekdays. All traffic control will remain in place 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. Peak travel times are Thursdays through Sundays from 2pm to 9pm. To avoid delays due to backups, please travel during off-peak travel times.

I-40, mile marker 9.290 – 15.950, Gallup Port of Entry to West Gallup

Fisher Sand & Gravel (Contractor) will resume roadway rehabilitation work on Monday, June 19, 2023. I-40 will be reduced to one lane in each direction for nighttime work. Speed reduced to 55 mph through the work zone. The contractor’s work hours are 7pm-5am, weekdays. There will be no impacts to traffic during daytime hours.

I-40, mile marker 56 – 58, East of Thoreau

Mountain States Constructors, Inc. (Contractor) has completed mill & fill work. I-40 will be reduced to one lane in each direction on Monday, 6/19/23 for striping. Speed reduced to 55 mph through the work zone.

State Roadways: NM 53, mile marker 15.500 – 19.500, east of Zuni Pueblo

Meridian Contracting, Inc. (Contractor) resumed work on May 8, 2023. NM 53 is reduced to one lane in each direction via a traffic signal. ONLY ONE DIRECTION OF TRAFFIC WILL BE ALLOWED THROUGH THE CONSTRUCTION ZONE AT A TIME. TO AVOID COLLISIONS, PLEASE DO NOT RUN RED LIGHTS AND BE PATIENT FOR TRAFFIC SIGNALS TO TURN GREEN. Speed reduced to 35 mph. The contractor’s work hours are 7am-5pm, weekdays.

NM 566, mile marker 0.000 – 0.866, BNSF Bridge at Church Rock

FNF Construction, Inc. (Contractor) has started bridge replacement and roadway reconstruction work. Traffic has been shifted onto the detour pavement, just west of the existing roadway and western portion of the bridge. Speed reduced to 35 mph through the work zone. The contractor’s work hours are 7am-6pm, weekdays.

NM 371, mile marker 1 – 10, Thoreau

Mountain States Constructors, Inc. (Contractor) has begun mill & fill work on Thursday, 6/15/23. NM 371 will be reduced to one lane in each direction. Speed reduced to 35 mph through the work zone. The contractor’s work hours are 7am-6am, weekdays. Follow signs for business access.

NM 126, mile marker 9.5 – 10.1, east of the Village of Cuba

Star Paving (Contractor) will begin slope stabilization work on NM 126 in early August. All impacts to traffic will be posted as a start date approaches.
